Livorno Calling: three workshops to be part of Effetto Venezia shows

Effetto Venezia 2023 is presented as a special edition not only because of the theme that characterizes it, cinema, but also because it will give the opportunity to those who want to get involved to be part of three different shows in the summer event.

The call is addressed to actors, amateurs, dancers, citizens, show professionals and non-professionals, children, teenagers, elderly people, and simply curious individuals.

Anyone who will respond to what the organizers have aptly called Livorno Calling will have access to different artistic workshops, all aimed at creating scenes that will be part of the Effetto Venezia shows.

There are three planned workshops: one by Teatro dei venti for Moby Dick, one by MET Cantieri Meticci for their show The Game, and finally one by Giulivo Clown for the Clown Battalion. Teatro dei Venti – Moby Dick
Moby Dick by Herman Melville is a novel that, if not everyone has read, they have certainly heard of. The complexity of the novel brings to light the contradictions of human beings, revealing their weaknesses and obsessions, and confronts them with themes that are more relevant than ever today: humans facing their own (metaphorical and real) abysses, the relationship and conflict with nature and, if we want to, the nature of things, and the inexhaustible will to survive. “Moby Dick” by Teatro dei Venti has the great power to delve into these themes and transform them into images of enormous power, not only through its symbolic and evocative staging, which is almost epic, but also through the participation of local communities and entities involved in specially structured workshops curated by the company in the days before the debut.

Teatro dei Venti is a theater company from Modena, active since 2005 in creating shows and implementing projects that combine creativity and the local community. Since 2012, they have organized the Trasparenze Festival and Residenze with the aim of giving voice to contemporary creativity, the languages of independent theater, and the enhancement of new spaces. In 2022, they curated the inaugural event of Procida Capital of Culture 2022.

MET Cantieri Meticci – The Game
In The Game, the protagonists will be twelve actors/dancers and a cyclotheater, a fifteen-meter long and three-meter wide carriage consisting of twelve walls mounted on twelve bicycles, capable of transforming and changing shape, following the dramaturgy, and becoming a different environment each time.

Game is a word learned during travels. The audience will find themselves immersed in a journey, accompanied by actors and stage props in a changing and welcoming scenography that manages to give form to tragedy and sweetness.

MET Cantieri Meticci is a collective of artists from over twenty countries around the world. Based in Bologna, they have been conducting workshops that combine arts and diverse people in neighborhoods, schools, reception centers, small neighborhood libraries, and parishes for years. They meet people: sometimes reluctant, sometimes annoyed, often eager to tell a story and engage in a project that puts them at the center.

Giulivo Clown – Clown Battalion
The performances will take the form of a “battalion,” a group of clowns wandering around the neighborhood, improvising scripted gags with the audience, based on a theme elaborated and studied during the workshop. Each evening, a different theme will be followed, chosen to have cinematic references. The preparatory workshop will help the group to bond and harmonize; later, during their daily work, they will establish the guidelines for the evening improvisations and adjust costume details.

David Bianchi, known as Giulivo, is a versatile and eclectic artist. He has experimented with various forms of art, from theater to comics, from acting to juggling, from balancing acts to fire breathing, from mime in operas to stilt-walking.
